Class outline

These classes commence on Wednesday 3rd January and will run for 6 weeks during term-time.

Can't make all 6 weeks? Don't worry. Class recordings are available so you never miss out.

The course will cover:

Week One - 3rd January

Introduction to Vinyasa Yoga including a brief history. The course will start by focusing on key seated and reclined postures (asanas), the benefits of simple breathwork and finishing in Savasana, the final relaxation pose that closes a class.

Week Two - 10th January

Exploration into key standing postures, their purpose and benefit. Poses covered will include; Crescent Lunge, Mountain, Warrior I, Warrior II, Pyramid, Triangle, Star and Goddess. Pranayama will also feature which is a type of breathing exercise.

Week Three - 17th January

Previous weeks will be revisited followed by an introduction to the Sun Salutations, otherwise known as Surya Namaskar. These are a sequence of poses linked together to warm up the entire body and calm the mind. Initially these will be broken down to smaller pieces.

Week Four - 24th January

Building on from the Sun Salutations, we will explore connecting movement with the breath as poses are linked together to aid more fluid movement. Breathwork will be key and we will centre and connect to the breath at the beginning and end of the practice

Week Five - 31st January

We will recap on previous weeks and start to look at balancing poses such as Tree, Eagle, Warrior III and Half Moon. Meditation will feature as we bring calmness to the mind to increase focus and aid balance.

Week Six - 7th February

Utilising everything taught so far we will embark upon a full class structure. This will include pranayama, breath linked movement both seated and standing, sun salutes, balances and finishing with Savasana so that you have the necessary tools and confidence to move onto a weekly Vinyasa class.
